Projects!

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Wednesday afternoon there was a lot of knitting, and some finished projects to check out.

Deborah finished the last sleeve on her cropped cardigan

Deb's Cropped Cardigan

which gave Jen an excuse to model hers.

Jen's Cropped Cardigan

Jen’s is knit out of Malabrigo, lovely hand dyed heavy worsted. Deb isn’t exactly sure what hers is knit out of, the labels don’t always stay on in her stash! Both recommend the pattern, from Blue Sky Alpaca. It’s knit from the top down, so you can easily adjust sleeve length or body length. Jen did less ribbing than the pattern showed, and it looks great.

Arlene is one the fastest sock knitters around. It took her about a week to produce a beautiful pair of socks from a Zauberball.

Arlene's Socks

They may be her sock entry into the sock yarn contest. She’s started another Zauberball pair, in another color.

And not yet done, but well on it’s way is Phyllis’ next sweater.

Blackstone Tweed Sleeves

The sleeves of a sweater (Interweave Knit’s Curry Cabled Cardigan) in Berroco’s Blackstone Tweed, a wonderful blend of wool, mohair and angora. The yarn is lovely to work with, and would be great for hats, scarves and mittens.

Sock Yarn Contest

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

It’s a sock yarn contest!
So much wonderful sock yarn, what to do with it?
Socks, of course, but there is so much else you can knit (or crochet) with it. Nice for baby items, as it’s machine washable. Lots of interesting colors and patterns, too.
So we needed a contest to see what our customers could come up with.
Here’s some inspiration

Suki Scarf

This scarf is knit with one skein of Noro Silk Garden Sock yarn. Wonderful colors. We named it the Suki Scarf- Suki is Jin’s mom.

Trekking Sweater

The baby sweater is knit with one skein of Trekking sock yarn- adorable, and machine washable.

Bear in Sweater

The bear’s sweater is the same pattern (from XRX Publishing’s Babies and Toddlers) however the collar was knit with fine mohair- a dressy baby sweater. The bear is holding a ball of the yarn used for the sweater- part of the fun of knitting with the self striping yarns is seeing how the stripes line up.

Sock Yarn Scarves

And the possibilities for scarves! The one of the left is just garter stitch, but garter stitch in Noro is something special. The others are lace patterns. Knit on larger needles than those used for socks, scarves work up quickly.

Start planning your entry- deadline for entries is October 17. Check out the store website for the rest of the contest details.
