Hat Week at Happy Hour

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

Lots of happy knitters this week at Happy Hour

Happy Hour

And more knitters came a little later. Hats seemed to be the topic of the day

Marilyn's Flap Hat

Marilyn brought two hats that she’s finished for the grandkids. Both have ear flaps, with braids hanging off the bottom of the flaps.

Marilyn's Other Flap Hat

These both used Kaffe Fasset self striping yarn. Noro would be fun for the stripes, too.

Carissa is in hat mode, too.

Gray cables

Carissa’s hats are berets, or tams. One is cabled, the other a textured yarn. She said that the high school girls are wearing them during the day.

Carissa's Beret

The berets floppy shape means that it can sit on the back of the head and be decorative, or pulled down to keep your ears warm when you go out in the cold.

Happy Hour is every Friday, from 3 to 6. No fee, just drop in and BYO Knitting (or crochet)

More Gift Projects

Monday, October 25th, 2010

Last week it was scarves, this week it’s neckwarmers!

Some people call them cowls, whatever you call them, they are a quick knit, often one skein of lush yarn.

Feather and Fan Neckwarmer

This one, out of Cascade’s Baby Alpaca Chunky, is a single skein knit up in a feather and fan pattern. Soft, drapey, and a little lacy.

Ribbed Neckwarmer

The ribbed neckwarmer is knit in Misti Alpaca’s Handpaint. It’s also a chunky baby alpaca, known for it’s softness. Either yarn would work well for either style, and there are other samples in the shop to give you more ideas. Patterns are free with purchase of yarn.

The hat? Also a single skein project, the Cable Hat knits up nicely with one skein of Blackstone Tweed.

Questions about a project? Knitter’s Support Group is this Thursday evening, from 7 to 9 pm. It’s a drop in session, $10, no need to make a reservation. Just come with questions.

Just want to knit with a friendly group? Happy Hour keeps growing, more knitters every week. From 3 to 6 on Friday, no charge, just BYO Knitting (or crochet).

Holiday Scarves

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

What! Not even Halloween, and we’re talking about The Holidays? The big ones in December?

Absolutely. Knitters love to gift with knits, and know that a long lead time means they can enjoy the process, and not be stressed by it. There are enough other things to get stressed about in December!

Sue came in to start looking for projects.

Sue's Sundae Scarf

She decided to start with a scarf knit out of Berroco’s Sundae. It’s a bulky yarn, so two skeins make a nice scarf, in a textured rib with a little ruffle on the end.

Another bulky yarn from Berroco, Peruvia Quick, is great for quick scarves

Zig Zag Scarf

The Zig Zag Scarf uses two skeins of Peruvia Quick, beginners seem to like this pattern.

Another one that everyone likes

Soffio Scarf

This is even easier, every row is the same. It works up quickly into a nice reversible scarf. The Soffio yarn is a bulky blend of wool, rayon, and nylon.

Not all quick knits use bulky yarn.

Suki Scarf

The Suki Scarf is knit out of one skein of Noro’s Silk Garden Sock yarn. It has a little shaping, is done all in knit, and there are several lovely colors to choose from.

All these patterns are free with purchase of the yarn. Happy knitting!

Happy Hour

Friday, October 8th, 2010

We’ve started the weekly Happy Hour for Knitters (and crocheters)

Today’s crew had some pretty impressive projects

Marge and Marilyn

Marilyn is holding the not quite done serape she’s knitting out of deep blue Manos. It’s got a large leaf motif running up the middle. She spends half of happy hour working on it, and the other half working on socks.

Marge was working on the edging for this jacket

Marge's Jacket

Knit out of Cascade 128, it’s got great textures and will be done by the time the weather turns cold.

Deb stopped by to show off her latest scarf

Deb's Scarf

Sport weight wool blend (don’t ask for more details, she’d lost the label) it knit up quickly in Willow Lace and blocked out beautifully to this lacy wonder.

Happy Hour is every Friday from 3 to 6. BYO Knitting!
